retreat at ram island, maine

.: this event is largely self-organizing :.

there is no registration

The maximum number of people is 12. It's best if you contact us and let us know you're coming, and if you plan to chip in for group food or need a space in the common tent.

If you just show up at the meeting point, and you're completely self-sufficient, and you're not psycho, you can probably come. But no guarantees.

there is no fixed fee

You should plan to pay for your own food, water, and transportation to Machiasport. Some of the expenses (transportation to the island, group purchases of food and fuel) we can share.

donaton for use of the island

Ram Island is privately owned by Bill Stanhope, a friend who is sympathetic to Shin Tai Do and related activities. He hasn't asked for any fee, but he is not wealthy and was almost forced to sell the island recently. His property taxes are $2500 per year, and the island generates zero income.

I'd suggest we try to give him about $50 each.

More important is that we treat the island with love and respect, perform our activities with sincerity and vigor, and enjoy one of the most fucking beautiful places on the planet.

donation for instructors / organizers

David Franklin and Anne Harley are working as volunteers. Tips accepted.

poor me

This event is not a commodity to be bought and sold. If you want to come but somehow think you can't afford it financially, let's find a way around it. Money is no excuse.
